You’re almost ready to book one of our packages to this year’s Open in Royal Portrush but you are not sure whether to rent a car and drive yourself or book a dedicated driver for the duration of your trip. Here are some points to consider before making your decision.
- If you are a small group of between 2-4 people, we would highly recommend self-drive for your vacation to Ireland and to The 148th Open. The routes are pretty straightforward, the roads are good and the longest drive is just 90 minutes (Dublin to Belfast) and is motorway most of the way. We have purposely chosen The Europa Hotel in Belfast for it’s convenience to the train station in Belfast. There will be regular trains operating to The Open and the Royal Portrush course is just a few minutes walk away from the train station in Portrush. This will be the easiest way to get to Royal Portrush during the tournament.
- For larger groups of 8 or more, private chauffeur hire can be a good option. Apart from the convenience of having a dedicated vehicle and driver, the motor coach will have plenty of room for all your luggage including your golf clubs. Our experienced and professional team of drivers will arrange seamless transfers for you and your group, including transport to your golfing venues as well as to your chosen tournament days at The Open.
- Some members of smaller groups may not be keen on driving while on vacation. These groups can opt for our ‘shared chauffeur drive’ experience which partners you up with other groups of similar size. The rates for this form of transport are similar to the private chauffeur rates for groups of 8, as mentioned in our package details.
If you have any further questions about your transfers and transport during The 148th Open, please do not hesitate to contact us here at Golf Vacations Ireland. Golf is our passion and we pride ourselves on making your golf vacation the best yet!
